How To Apply Eyeliner

There are several different kinds of eyeliner designs and patterms. But we’re going to focus on a few major ones. A steady line along your upper lashes and angling out can do immense favors for your good looks. With a little eye shadow and mascara, you can’t go wrong. Here’s how to do eyeliner:

  • Run the tip of your eyeliner brush (an ultrafine one is ideal) along your hand, specifically the area behind your thumb. The trick is to use your hand like a painter’s palette instead of directly applying the liner. It removes excess liquid and lets you control how much product is being distributed along your lashes.
  • Start at the middle of your eyelid, at the lashes. From this point your liner stripe can gradually thicken. Draw short dashes along your lashes. Make sure the dashes extend beyond your eyes’ outer corners. Short tick-designs like this gives you added control (unlike long swoops).
  • Don’t add any more ink to the brush yet. Go back to center and work your way toward the inner corner of your eyes, namely the tear ducts. Look up and out in a mirror so you can better see what you’re doing. Add the thinnest lines here, becoming lean as you get to the inner corner.
  • Take a Q-tip, dip it in make up remover (oil-free ones are a good idea), and gently drag it along the edges of your liner. It cleans away any unwanted ink strokes. Keep your eyes closed until the liner dries otherwise ink might spread to the creases as your lids open.

This is the commonest way on how to apply eyeliner.

These eyeliners are designed to give you the most distinct line. They are durable, and are known to frame and define your eyes while affording you better precision than pencil liners. Choose a suitable eye shadow and apply the liner after you’ve done the shadow.

  • Find a firm surface so you can place your elbow on it to steady your hand. You can rest your wrist against your face but chances are you’ll pull down and your eyelid might be stretched, and application can be skewed.
  • Find the center of your lash line on the upper lid. Trace the natural curve of your lashes along the line. Use the dash technique detailed above to gain added control.
  • Head to the outer corner of your eyes. Liquid liners make it easy to draw flicks to make your eyes appear more open.
  • Liquid liners are often too heavy for the lower lid, so check what you’ve done on the upper one. Take a Q-tip dipped in oil-free make up remover to clear excess liner.

  • The perfect brush for gel eyeliners is a thin-tipped wand with a thin handle.
  • These liners are designed to glide over your lid. Dab the brush in the gel (get a firm coat, no chunks or drips) and position the tip at the inner area of your eyelids. Don’t cover the inner corner of your eyes, though.
  • Brush all the way outward, tracing the line of your lashes. Give the liner a few seconds to dry. Repeat.
  • Retracing adds more depth, shape and concentration of color.
  • Add some eyeliner to the inner waterline. It makes your work look uniform.
