In all honesty, it really all about the preparation work that you put into getting your lips ‘dark-lip-ready’ – and in this case, your dark lip liner is your best friend to creating that lasting lip colour last! Here are our tricks to rocking your dark lipstick, all day, every day!

Polish That Pout

Dark lipsticks, especially if they come in the form of matte sticks, will most likely emphasize any chapped or flakiness your lips might have, so you want to be sure that you exfoliate your lips before applying anything to them, we’ve even heard that using a disposable mascara wand to buff away any dead skin, works like a charm.

Lipstick-Free Teeth!

Yea you heard us, the last thing anyone wants to experience is having lipstick stains on your teeth all day long, and no one pointing it out to you – how embarrassing?! To make sure that you don’t sit with this unflattering problem, stick your clean finger into your mouth, wrap your lips around it and then gently pull it out – this will make sure that any excess lipstick you have sitting on the inner part of your lips, comes off, leaving your lips and your pearly whites, perfect.

Precision is the Key Here

We’ve been in the makeup industry for a while now, and we know how very difficult it can be to get that perfect bold lip with the lipstick stick – so to make life a little easier, get yourself a lipstick brush and simply dap the brush onto your lipstick, this will make applying your dark lipstick a lot easier, and you’ll get a fuller coverage on your lisp every, single time!

Pull Out the Liner

As 80’s as it may sound, the lip liner is an absolute crucial ingredient to getting the perfect set of dark lips! The lip liner will act a as sealant for your colour and will also boost your dark lip colour, making it the perfect combo with a dark lipstick!

Conceal Those Lips

If you want to make your dark lipstick pop even more than normal, add a concealer to your outer lip line using a cover up and a pointed make up brush, this will make your lips pop with colour and help the colour last a lot longer than normal.

Fade and Feather your Lips

You need to make sure that your dark lip colour isn’t going to feather out or ‘bleed’ and the perfect way to avoid this is by using a reverse lip liner. Create a barrier for your lipstick by using an invisible or nude coloured lip liner and you’ll not have to worry about getting that ‘’I’ve-just-had-lunch-with-my-lipstick-look’’

Avoid the Lipstick Stain Hangover

If you don’t want to be struggling with the removal of your dark lipstick once your night is over, try applying a tiny bit of petroleum jelly on your lips before applying lip colour, this will keep your lips hydrated and stop them from staining the dark colour into the creases of your lips.

Getting it Off!

Honestly, we’ve had some very terrible times trying to get dark lipstick off of our lips at the end of the day, to avoid this situation, try some Vaseline as a lip stick remover, this thick jelly is like a magic dark lip colour remover!

Go Two Toned to Avoid Fading

Ugh, fading and faded lipstick is the ugliest thing ever! So in order to create a more natural and gorgeous looking fade, try using a red lipstick in the middle of your dark lip colour, this will create a two-toned look which will look so much better if your dark lipstick starts to fade.
