Why the Banning of Micro Beads is Actually a Great Thing!

President Obama has officially passed and approved the bill on banning body washes, toothpastes, and soaps which contain all or any form of the harmful micro beads ingredient! These tiny, tiny plastic particles are some of the main ingredients in many of the everyday beauty products that we use, and it was recently revealed that these micro beads are actually not at all dissolvable and causing a huge threat on the environment!

Micro beads are typically used in products like toothpastes, body washes and face scrubs, mainly because their cleansing qualities are useful when it comes to scrubbing and wiping away oil and dirt particles from the skin and also from our teeth. Although these particles can seem like a life saver when you need them most, it’s the horrid effect that it’s impacting on the earth and its environment that got these little micro beads banned!

In a recent study it was revealed that over 1.7 million of these tiny destructive particles were found in each square kilometre in the Lake Erie, where a lot of the state’s trash ends up settling, causing more and more damage as microbeads get flushed down the drains and pipelines and end up in waste water treatment plants. These waste water treatment plants are set out to filter the gunk and grossness out of our water, and ultimately to filter and clean it! Although the micro beads are so small that they don’t actually get caught by the filters and instead they get pushed straight into our lakes and oceans!

It goes without saying that this is harmful for our oceans, lakes, water and the creatures that live within them! Aquatic wildlife, such as sea turtles, fish and pretty much any sea life out there, end up feeding on these micro beads, and of course they can’t pass these micro beads through their systems and end up getting lodged in their delicate stomachs! This causes the sea life to stop eating completely and they end up dying of starvation, or suffering various other health issues.

So it is quite obvious why this particle needed to be banned, now the best part about this ban is that companies are now going to be forced to use natural and organic forms of ingredients which are similar to those of the micro beads – but obviously they’re much more effective, healthier, and will probably get companies onto the organic and natural bandwagon a lot faster than we initially thought!

This is ultimately fantastic news, and we’re really quite excited at the idea of natural and organic products taking over our beauty ranges, because in the long run, we’ll be living healthier lives, and have healthier skin, plus we’ll be helping in the fight against saving the planet and its precious creatures!
